StatSharp Betting Insights
This week’s StatSharp football newsletter takes a broader look at where the numbers may be telling a different story than the standings or the betting market. We lead with our latest NFL Regression Watch, identifying teams whose records don’t fully match their underlying efficiency, yardage and scoring profiles. From there, we dig into a contrarian Detroit-Miami betting system, a strong CeeDee Lamb prop trend, several notable team and coaching angles, and model disagreements in Kentucky-Tennessee and Green Bay-New England. The goal isn’t to turn every data point into a bet—it’s to highlight the trends, pricing gaps and underlying signals worth understanding before this weekend’s NFL and college football markets fully settle.
Which Teams Are Better—or Worse—Than Their Records Suggest?
NFL records can lie. A team sitting at 6-2 may look like a contender, while a 4-4 team can appear stuck in neutral—but the underlying numbers often tell a very different story.
In our latest NFL Regression Watch, we compare each team’s record with three core indicators that tend to reveal whether that performance is sustainable: yards per play differential, total yardage differential and scoring differential. The goal is to identify teams whose results may be running ahead of—or behind—their actual level of play.
That produces some eye-opening contrasts. Denver and Chicago have strong records, but each carries statistical warning signs that suggest the market may be pricing too much optimism into their current form. On the other side, Seattle and the Los Angeles Rams have played much better football than their .500 records imply, with positive efficiency, yardage and scoring profiles that point toward potential upside.
There are also teams such as Cleveland, Las Vegas and the Jets whose records and underlying data create very different kinds of regression questions.
The key isn’t simply who has won or lost. It’s whether the market has already adjusted to what the deeper numbers are saying.
“Bet Under when a home team meets all three conditions: the game total is 49.5 or higher, its defense is allowing opponents to complete at least 64% of their passes for the season, and it allowed at least 8.0 yards per pass attempt in its previous game. Since 2017, the Under is 53-16 (76.8%), producing +35.4 units with a 46.6% ROI.”
This is a classic contrarian setup built around market overreaction to a bad passing defense. To qualify, the team must be playing at home, have a season-long pass defense allowing a completion percentage of 64% or worse, and be coming directly off a game in which it surrendered at least 8.0 yards per pass attempt. The market must then post a relatively high total of 49.5 points or more.
That combination creates an obvious narrative: a vulnerable secondary just got torched, so another high-scoring game feels likely. Historically, however, the market has tended to price too much of that recent defensive failure into the next total. Qualifying games have carried an average total of 52 points but produced only 46.9 combined points. The Under has cashed in 53 of 69 games, and 32 of those games stayed below the number by at least seven points.
Miami checks every box this week against Detroit: the Dolphins are the home team, their season-long completion percentage allowed meets the system’s poor-pass-defense threshold, their most recent opponent averaged at least 8.0 yards per pass attempt, and the game total is 49.5 or higher. That makes Miami-Detroit another case where the obvious reaction is to expect fireworks—but historically, this exact combination has produced value on the Under.
Player Prop Trend
Lamb Keeps Clearing the Big-Play Bar
CeeDee Lamb is 19-7 Over his Longest Reception prop since 2024, a 73.1% hit rate that has produced +11.0 units and a 37.1% ROI.
The margin has been substantial, too. Lamb has averaged a 33.7-yard longest catch against an average prop of just 24.5 yards—a difference of +9.2 yards. That history makes his longest-reception market worth another look Sunday against Indianapolis.
Fade Auburn at home against SEC opponents. Since 2024, the Tigers are just 1-9 ATS in this spot, losing 8.9 units with a -73.6% ROI.
Auburn has been favored by an average of just 1.0 point in these games, yet has been outscored 26.0-19.3. That gap suggests the problem has gone beyond a few bad ATS breaks, with the Tigers consistently underperforming market expectations in SEC home games. Arkansas gets the favorable side of that persistent trend Saturday.
Positive Coach Trend
Clemson Keeps Building on Covers
Bet Dabo Swinney away from home after Clemson has covered at least one straight game. The Tigers are 42-16 ATS (72.4%) in this spot, producing +24.4 units with a 38.2% ROI.
Clemson has done more than simply cover in these momentum spots, outscoring opponents by an average of 34.2-20.1 despite laying an average of 7.4 points. The Tigers enter Saturday with some renewed momentum after last week's upset of Florida State. History suggests Swinney's teams have been particularly good at carrying that positive form into their next road or neutral-site matchup, putting Clemson in the favorable position at Syracuse.
Negative Team Trend
November Is Chiefs Kryptonite
Fade Kansas City in November. Since 2024, the Chiefs are an astonishing 0-10 ATS during the month, losing 11.0 units with a -100% ROI.
Kansas City has been favored by an average of 5.2 points in those games, yet has actually been outscored 24.1-23.1. The market has continued charging a premium for the Chiefs even as November results have consistently fallen short of expectations. With Thanksgiving approaching, bettors may want to think twice before putting Kansas City on the plate—the Chiefs have been getting stuffed at the betting window all month long. The Jets get the favorable side of that trend Sunday.
StatSharp has run our Power Rating and Simulation models for some of this weekend’s biggest matchups. Below are the projected scores, stats, betting lines, and edges our models highlight for key games on the slate.
Game Read: The simulation expects Josh Heupel’s Tennessee offense to lean heavily on DeSean Bishop and the ground game, while keeping George MacIntyre’s passing production relatively modest. Kentucky’s Kenny Minchey and CJ Baxter have helped fuel a six-game winning streak under Will Stein, but the model sees both offenses operating below the market’s scoring expectation.
Net: The clearest simulation position is Under 49.5. Kentucky +5.5 carries a smaller secondary edge, with the model keeping this ranked SEC matchup within one score.

Money Line: GB +140 · NE -166 Win Probability: GB 38.6% · NE 61.4% ML Edge: No meaningful discrepancy.
Total: 44.5 Under Probability:62.9% O/U Edge:Under 44.5 (+7.5 points)
Team Totals:
Green Bay 22.5 — Under 69.0% (+5.5)
New England 24.5 — Under 64.1% (+4.5)
Game Read: The power ratings see Matt LaFleur’s Packers and Mike Vrabel’s Patriots as closely matched, but the defensive ratings stand out. Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs face a New England unit rated No. 9, while Drake Maye gets an even tougher Green Bay defense rated No. 6. The model expects both offenses to have trouble reaching their posted team totals.
Net:Under 44.5 is the clear model position. The spread is efficiently priced at New England -3, while both team-total Unders also show meaningful value.
